Working With Young People
Youth Services
Supporting young people in the Dapto area - Ages 12 to 18 years old

CareWays operates youth services out of 3 community hubs.
Dapto Youth Project, West Dapto Youth Project & Koonawarra Youth Project.

Koonawarra Youth Drop In
Where: Koonawarra Community Centre
When: Tuesdays 3pm – 5.30pm

The Koonawarra Youth Project offers a dedicated youth indoor sporting venue available on Tuesday afternoons. The program will involve indoor sports including Basketball, indoor Soccer, Cricket plus much more. In addition we will provide access to support and information needed by all young people. The Drop in Program is supervised by two Youth Workers and offers a safe and friendly environment where young people can come after school to hang out with friends and make new friends.
Other Youth programs offered at Koonawarra Community Centre include the Rock and Water anti-Bullying program and Anger Management MAD (Managing Anger Differently) Program.

Dapto - The Lair
Where: Dapto Ribbonwood Centre
When: Thursdays 3pm – 5.30pm

The LAIR is a dedicated Youth Space that offers Internet Service, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii, free milkshakes and other activities.  In addition we will provide access to support and information needed by all young people.

The Drop in Program is supervised by two Youth Workers and offers a safe and friendly environment where young people can come after school to hang out with friends and meet new people.

West Dapto Youth Drop In

Where: Horsley Community Centre

When: Monday 3:00 pm – 5:15 pm


The West Dapto Youth Project offers Internet Service, PlayStation 4, music, games and activities. In addition we will provide access to support and information needed by all young people. The Drop in Program is supervised by two Youth Workers and offers a safe and friendly environment where young people can come after school to hang out with friends and meet new people.

Other Youth Programs offered at Horsley Community Centre include the Rock and Water anti-Bullying program and a Young Women’s Support and information Program.
We Offer an Array of Youth Services:
  • Information and referrals
  • Youth Breakfast Program
  • Rock and Water Program which focuses on practical anti-bullying strategies, alternatives to aggressive verbal and physical responses, self-respect, self-control and self-confidence.
  • Skill based learning programs including MAD Managing Anger Differently Program.
  • Young Women’s Program with sessions that consist of team building exercises, guest speakers from different Community Service Organisations and living and social skills.
  • Drop in Services at Koonawarra Community Centre, Horsley Community Centre and the Lair located within the Ribbonwood Centre Dapto.
  • Support and early intervention to disciplinary action within the school environment.
  • Suspension program and liaison with schools enabling school suspension to be served in a positive safe space in the Lair within the Ribbonwood Centre.
  • Research existing services to find gaps by networking with young people at risk their parents/carers and teachers to develop strategies to meet identified unmet needs.
  • Resources for access to counselling for issues of Anger Management, Drug and Alcohol, Domestic Violence and Youth Suicide, Legal Issues, Youth Housing, Health and Sexuality, Mental Health, Welfare etc.
  • Skill based learning and cultural activities, art, music and dance. Access to computers, internet and information technology.
  • Living skills programs developing self-esteem through cooking, financial management, information on access to employment and training on health issues.
  • Closing the gap with youth activities combining indigenous and mainstream programs to provide a more holistic approach to our Youth Service.
  • Access to mentoring programs with University and High School students including elders from similar cultural backgrounds.
